China 2017

The Great Wall, China

My friends arranged everything to visit The Great Wall on Sunday. They surprised me when they told me that a common friend of us was traveling to Asia and had a 12-hour layover in Beijing, so he and his travel companions would join us.  We went to the section of the Wall located in Mitianyu. It is one of the most popular sections and also the best restored. A car from Beijing usually takes one hour and a half to reach it.

We arrived in the afternoon and took the cable car to go up. We were lucky because it wasn’t too crowded and we could walk along the Wall for a few hours in relative peace. Considering all the steps, it was a very good workout.  We watched the sunset from the Wall and afterwards, we went down by toboggan, which was a lot of fun.

We headed back to Beijing and arrive at nighttime, hungry and ready for dinner. One of my friends suggested to go eat one of the most traditional dishes of town – peking duck, so we did. We all loved it, it was one of the gastronomic highlights of the trip.
